India-US Navy EOD exercise concludes in Kochi

Kochi: The eighth edition of the India-US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Exercise 2026 concluded at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi on August 14.

The bilateral exercise brought together teams from both navies for intensive professional interaction, knowledge sharing and demonstrations, with a focus on strengthening capabilities in specialised maritime operations.

Focus on IEDs, mine neutralisation and underwater operations

The exercise featured Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs) covering threats from improvised explosive devices (IEDs), render-safe procedures, mine neutralisation and the use of unmanned underwater systems.

The cross-training phase included specialised diving activities such as wreck location and salvage, use of specialist equipment and slithering operations.

The joint training enhanced the professional skills and operational competence of diving teams while promoting greater mutual understanding and interoperability between the two navies.

The successful conclusion of the exercise reaffirmed the commitment of India and the United States to strengthening operational cooperation and synergy in specialised maritime operations.
