Bengaluru: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday accused the Karnataka Congress government of attempting to evade responsibility for alleged financial irregularities in the Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation by seeking the resignation of former minister B Nagendra.
Reacting to Nagendra’s statement that he resigned to prevent embarrassment to the Congress party, Kumaraswamy questioned the circumstances surrounding his resignation.
He alleged that the alleged irregularities in the Valmiki Corporation had embarrassed the state government, with funds meant for the welfare of tribal communities allegedly being diverted and distributed among individuals.
Kumaraswamy further accused the Congress government of attempting to distance itself from the controversy by making Nagendra resign.
The Valmiki Corporation case has triggered a political confrontation in Karnataka, with the opposition demanding accountability over the alleged misuse of funds earmarked for the welfare of Scheduled Tribe communities.
