Balurghat: West Bengal’s first-ever Kaushal Mahotsav witnessed a massive response from job-seeking youth, with more than 7,500 interviews conducted and over 4,500 candidates shortlisted for employment opportunities.
The two-day employment and skill-development initiative was organised in Balurghat by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in collaboration with the West Bengal government and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
More than 50 employers offered over 7,000 job opportunities across sectors including manufacturing, retail, logistics, healthcare, hospitality, food processing, banking and financial services.
50+ employers participate
Leading companies and organisations, including Royal Enfield, Wipro, Axis Bank, Barbeque Nation, Blink Commerce, Sodexo, Tata Projects, TVS Supply Chain, Kawasaki Precision Machinery and Zepto, participated in the recruitment drive.
Union Minister of State for Education and Development of Northeastern Region Sukanta Majumdar said education and skills are the twin pillars of employability and success.

He said the Skill India Mission, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeks to equip young people with skills and connect them with gainful employment opportunities.
Majumdar also urged youngsters to use technology productively, encouraging them to turn their mobile phones into tools for learning and career development rather than merely entertainment.
He praised the initiative for bringing employment and skilling opportunities to a relatively remote region, saying access to career opportunities should not be restricted by geography.
The event was attended by several Union and West Bengal ministers, MPs, MLAs and senior government officials.
The Kaushal Mahotsav is a flagship MSDE initiative aimed at connecting young people with employers and creating meaningful career opportunities through skill development and direct recruitment.
