Vijayendra challenges Karnataka govt: ‘If you have courage, openly ban RSS’

Bengaluru: BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra has challenged Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Home Minister Priyank Kharge to openly ban the RSS if they have the courage, instead of allegedly using government power through the “back door”.

Reacting on social media, Vijayendra said the RSS has a history spanning more than 100 years and has been engaged in serving the nation. He claimed that its activities cannot be curbed through such measures.

His remarks come amid a political confrontation between the Congress government and the BJP over the proposed legislation regulating the use of government premises and public property.

Vijayendra also criticised Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan over reports that he had sought exemption from hoisting the national flag on Independence Day.

He said hoisting the Tricolour on August 15 is a duty of a minister, not an option, and urged Zameer Ahmed not to step away from the responsibility citing party programmes or by-election campaigning.

The BJP has continued to oppose the government’s proposed public property regulation bill and has alleged that the legislation could be used against the RSS.
