New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) BJP Kisan Morcha National President and Member of Parliament Rajkumar Chahar on Saturday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the release of the latest instalment under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme from Hooghly district in West Bengal.
On behalf of the BJP Kisan Morcha and the farming community, Chahar thanked the Prime Minister for empowering farmers through direct financial assistance and agriculture-focused reforms.
Under the latest instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, more than 9.44 crore eligible farmers across the country received a direct benefit transfer of over Rs 18,880 crore into their bank accounts.
The scheme provides financial assistance of Rs 6,000 annually to eligible farmer families in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each.
Highlighting the Modi government’s initiatives for the agriculture sector, Chahar said the Prime Minister has remained firmly committed to making farmers self-reliant, capable and economically stronger.
He said the government’s policies over the past 12 years have focused on increasing farm productivity, reducing input costs and improving farmers’ access to credit and markets.
Chahar said that the agriculture budget has increased substantially under the Modi government, rising from around Rs 27,000 crore during the UPA era to nearly Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
He also pointed to the distribution of Soil Health Cards to more than 22 crore farmers, which, he said, has helped cultivators make informed decisions regarding crop nutrition and fertiliser usage.
Chahar further highlighted the expansion of the Kisan Credit Card network and the promotion of Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs), stating that more than 8,000 FPOs have been established across the country. These organisations, he said, have enabled farmers to collectively market their produce, improve bargaining power and secure better prices.
The BJP leader also credited initiatives such as Nano Urea and Neem-Coated Urea with reducing dependence on conventional fertilisers and lowering input costs for farmers.
Taking a swipe at the opposition, the BJP Kisan Morcha chief alleged that while the Modi government has consistently implemented measures for the welfare of farmers, opposition parties have sought to mislead the farming community for political gains.
He asserted that the Prime Minister has fulfilled commitments made to farmers through a series of welfare and reform measures, and that the benefits of these initiatives are now reaching millions of farming families across the country through direct transfers and targeted agricultural programmes.
