Liquor-laden car crashes in Patna, passersby scramble to pick up bottles

Patna, Aug 21 (IANS) Amid Bihar’s prohibition law, a video showing people allegedly picking up liquor bottles after a road accident in Patna has gone viral on social media.

The incident took place on Friday on the National Highway in Lodipur under Khusrupur police station.

A car allegedly carrying a consignment of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) crashed on the highway, causing bottles inside the vehicle to spill and scatter across the road.

As soon as passersby noticed the bottles, a mob gathered at the spot.

Pedestrians, truck drivers and car drivers were seen stopping and picking up the liquor bottles.

Some people reportedly ran away with the liquor bottles, while others approached the damaged vehicle to collect them.

The viral footage shows liquor bottles scattered across the highway as people scramble to take them away.

In one particularly notable scene, people are seen collecting liquor bottles near an e-rickshaw carrying schoolchildren.

The incident has drawn considerable attention because it occurred in Bihar, where prohibition is in force.

The video has sparked discussion on social media over liquor smuggling as well as the conduct of people who allegedly took advantage of the accident to pick up the bottles.

According to an official, the crashed vehicle bears registration number BR 01 FL 8170.

The suspected liquor smuggler allegedly fled the spot following the accident.

After being alerted, Khusrupur police reached the site and seized the damaged car.

Police have registered an FIR against an unidentified liquor smuggler and initiated an investigation to trace and arrest the accused.

Investigators are also trying to establish the source of the liquor consignment and its intended destination.

The incident has drawn attention as it occurred despite Bihar’s prohibition policy.

The visuals of people allegedly taking away liquor bottles scattered on the road have also raised questions about social responsibility and the enforcement of the state’s prohibition law.

The damaged vehicle remains in police custody, while efforts are underway to trace the suspected smuggler.
