Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 21 (IANS) Members of the public can now pass on information about criminal activities to the Kerala Police without revealing their identity, using an anonymous information-sharing facility available on the force’s Pol-App.
The facility allows people to provide information about crimes or suspicious activities without having to disclose personal details such as their name, mobile number, email address, or residential address.
The Kerala Police has highlighted the “Share Information Anonymously” option on the Pol-App as a way for members of the public to communicate information to the police while keeping their identity undisclosed.
The facility could be particularly useful for people who may have information about criminal activities but are reluctant to approach a police station or identify themselves because of concerns over their personal safety or privacy.
Under the facility, users can select the anonymous information-sharing option on the Pol-App and submit details relating to a crime or other information they believe should be brought to the attention of the police.
The facility does not require the informant to provide basic identifying details normally associated with submitting information, including a name, mobile phone number, email address, or residential address.
The move also provides another channel for the public to communicate directly with the police, alongside conventional methods of reporting crimes and approaching police stations.
The Pol-App is Kerala Police’s mobile application that provides various police-related services and information to the public.
The anonymous information-sharing option is among the facilities available through the application.
The police have urged members of the public who come across information relating to criminal activities to use the available mechanism to bring such information to the attention of the authorities.
The application can be downloaded from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Kerala Police has been expanding the use of digital platforms to provide services and improve communication with the public, with the Pol-App serving as a single point for several such facilities.
