Srinagar, Sept 6 (IANS) Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati presently serving as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh high court.
An official communique said that the President of India has appointed Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, currently serving as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, as the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Justice Bhati’s appointment marks a significant development in the higher judiciary of the UTs. He is set to assume charge as the 39th Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Born on September 21, 1970, Justice Bhati pursued his higher education in law, completing his B.A., LL.B. and LL.M. in Mercantile Law. He later earned a Ph.D. for his research on “Promotion & Seniority in Public Employment, its Changing Dimensions and Role of Supreme Court.” Justice Bhati enrolled as an advocate in 1992 and went on to build an extensive legal practice before the Rajasthan High Court.
During his legal career, he handled a wide range of matters and remained actively associated with the legal fraternity in Rajasthan. Prior to his elevation to the Bench, Justice Bhati served as the Additional Advocate General of Rajasthan. He was also closely associated with the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers’ Association and served as its President, besides contributing to the affairs of the legal profession.
Justice Bhati was elevated to the Rajasthan High Court on November 16, 2016, marking the beginning of his judicial career on the Bench. Following his appointment, Justice Bhati will take charge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, which exercises jurisdiction over the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
His elevation as Chief Justice is expected to bring his extensive judicial and legal experience to the administration of the High Court and its continuing work in the two Union Territories.
J&K and Ladakh high court is presently headed by an acting CJ, Justice Sanjeev Kumar.
