BENGALURU: A court in Bengaluru on Tuesday remanded former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna and co-accused Pratap Rai to two days of police custody in connection with the alleged use of a mobile phone inside Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
The two were produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court as police stepped up their investigation into how the prohibited device reached Revanna inside the high-security prison and who supplied it.
Police sought custody to question the accused about the source of the phone and determine whether others were involved in facilitating its use inside the prison. The court subsequently granted the two-day custody.
Revanna, who is serving a prison sentence in a rape case, is currently lodged at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. The alleged mobile phone use came to light during a search operation conducted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on August 11.
The phone reportedly contained applications including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Investigators found that it was allegedly being used to communicate with family members and lawyers.
Police have already arrested a person suspected of supplying the mobile phone to Revanna.
The FIR registered in connection with mobile phone use inside Parappana Agrahara prison names Pratap as accused No. 1 and Prajwal Revanna as accused No. 2.
During the police custody, investigators are expected to question the accused about how the phone was brought into the prison, who facilitated its access and whether any prison personnel or other individuals were involved.
