New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta announced that a state-of-the-art museum will be built in the Legislative Assembly complex, offering citizens an opportunity to explore the constitutional legacy and architectural heritage of this historic landmark, an official said on Tuesday.
Addressing students of Delhi University under the Secretariat’s Youth Outreach Initiative, the Speaker outlined plans to turn the campus into an educational destination for the public.
The proposed museum will display rare historical artefacts, archival documents, and interactive exhibits detailing the evolution of local governance, he said.
By converting parts of the historic 1912 site into a curated public space, the Secretariat aims to provide visitors with a tangible connection to the foundational moments of the nation’s legislative past, he said.
The Speaker emphasised that this initiative will serve as an experiential learning hub for the capital’s youth and scholars.
Gupta said that giving citizens direct access to the seat of local democracy will foster a stronger sense of civic ownership and deepen public appreciation for India’s democratic traditions.
Students from across Delhi University, including Bhagini Nivedita College, Shivaji College, Rajdhani College, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College, PGDAV College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and Hansraj College gathered at the Delhi Legislative Assembly House for the interaction, according to an official statement.
This project marks a significant step forward in heritage preservation for the capital, transforming the working assembly grounds into a living cultural centre that celebrates both historic milestones and contemporary governance, said the statement.
During their visit, the delegation undertook a comprehensive tour of the historic 1912 Assembly complex, tracing its heritage from the former Central Legislative Assembly and figures like Vitthalbhai Patel to its modern role since 1993.
The programme featured an in-depth orientation on legislative procedures detailing how laws are crafted and passed, a documentary screening, the presentation of the commemorative history book Ek Shatabdi Yatra.
The session concluded with a walkthrough of the main Assembly House chamber, where the students observed the operational core of local governance firsthand.
