Bengaluru: The Citizen Rights Foundation has urged the Karnataka govt to conduct a thorough and transparent search for a new Vice-Chancellor for Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). This development comes as RGUHS prepares to appoint a new Vice-Chancellor following the current incumbent’s term ending on Feb 10, 2025.
In a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others, KA Paul, Chairman of the foundation, stated that Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is a key institution responsible for shaping the healthcare professionals of tomorrow. It holds a significant place in public life. However, recent revelations regarding corruption, mismanagement, and unethical practices within the university have deeply alarmed us. These issues are not just administrative failures; they are systemic injustices that have undermined the quality of education, compromised the integrity of the institution, and put public trust in jeopardy.
The letter further stated recent revelations of corruption and malpractice within RGUHS. Some of them include recruitment irregularities, where there are allegations of favouritism and bribery in faculty and staff appointments. Financial mismanagement, with reports of funds being diverted from critical areas like student scholarships and infrastructure development. Admissions irregularities and lack of accountability. “Despite the mounting evidence of corruption and mismanagement, there has been little to no action taken against those responsible. The university’s failure to address these issues has contributed to a culture of impunity within its administration,” the letter stated.
