Bengaluru: KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad on Tuesday said the Congress was a continuously evolving organisation and assured party workers that those who remained committed to the party would get opportunities in the future.
Addressing a gathering at Bharat Jodo Hall during the formal assumption of office by the newly appointed Bengaluru Central District Congress president Saravana, Hariprasad said the party should focus on issues concerning people’s livelihoods, employment and development.
He alleged that during the previous BJP government, political debates had centred on issues such as hijab and halal instead of development and job creation. The Congress, he said, should keep people’s economic concerns at the centre of its political agenda.
On the party’s guarantee schemes, Hariprasad said they were not introduced solely as an electoral strategy but were intended to provide support and protection to people.
He urged Congress workers to strengthen the party organisation with the objective of winning all Lok Sabha seats and a majority of Assembly constituencies in Bengaluru. Referring to Saravana’s appointment, he said party observers had consulted leaders and workers before finalising the new district president.
Hariprasad raises voter-list concerns
Hariprasad also levelled allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, claiming that an attempt was being made to remove more than 50 lakh voters from Bengaluru’s electoral rolls.
He alleged that voters belonging to minority communities, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, as well as economically weaker sections, were being targeted for deletion. He further accused the RSS and BJP of influencing the electoral process and alleged that the Election Commission was being used to deprive disadvantaged sections of their voting rights.
