Youth shot after fight at drinking party in Bengal’s Liluah, admitted to hospital

Kolkata, August 5 (IANS) A youth was shot at and admitted to a hospital after a shooting broke out over an argument at a drinking party in Howrah district’s Liluah area of West Bengal, the police said on Wednesday.

Tension spread in the area after the incident took place late Tuesday night.

The situation is still tense since Monday morning as policemen have been deployed to maintain peace.

On Tuesday night, two parties suddenly got into a fight at a drinking party in Liluah’s Verma Colony area.

A youth was injured after being shot in the shoulder.

According to local sources, the youth’s name is Malinga and is still undergoing treatment at the hospital.

His physical condition is stable.

The police are investigating the reason for this fight and who fired the shots. No one has been detained or arrested in the incident so far.

A senior officer of Howrah police said, “There was an argument between two friends during a drinking party last night, and then the youth was shot at. After this incident, the youth has been admitted to Howrah General Hospital. Initial investigation has revealed that the argument started between the two friends while drinking alcohol. At that time, another person pointed a gun at Malinga and opened fire. After Malinga was injured, the accused youth fled.”

Following the incident, a large police force reached the spot.

A huge quantity of alcohol was recovered from the area.

The police started a search for the accused.

The CCTV footages of the area are being monitored to track the movement of the accused.

On August 2, three people were injured in a firing incident in Birbhum district’s Nalhati area.

The incident took place on August 2 near Haridaspur village under Nalhati police station area.

Three local residents named Biki Sheikh, Habibul Sheikh and Johnny Sheikh were rescued after being injured in the firing. They were admitted to Rampurhat Government Medical College in Birbhum.

Later, Biki and Johnny were shifted to a hospital in Durgapur of West Burdwan district as their condition were serious.

Officers from Nalhati Police Station went to the spot and recovered 10 shell casings and one cartridge from the site.
