Mumbai, June 21 (IANS) National Stock Exchange (NSE) CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan on Sunday said that yoga has become increasingly important in today’s lifestyle and can help address both physical and mental health issues.
Speaking to IANS, Chauhan said that it was due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the United Nations declared June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2015.
He said yoga offers immense benefits, which is why people across the world celebrate Yoga Day and embrace the practice.
“Yoga teaches us that we can keep ourselves fit and healthy without the need for any external equipment or support,” Chauhan said.
He further noted that screen usage has increased significantly in recent years, with many people spending long hours working on computers, mobile phones and other digital devices.
“This has led to several health-related issues, and yoga can play an important role in addressing many of these problems,” he told IANS.
Advising young people to adopt yoga as part of their daily routine, the NSE chief said everyone should practice yoga regularly.
“Most people do not face major health issues until the age of 25 or 30. However, if you start focusing on yoga early in life, it can help prevent a number of physical as well as mental health problems later on,” Chauhan added.
Meanwhile, NSE has been in the spotlight over its proposed initial public offering (IPO). Recently, the exchange’s Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) revealed that the long-pending co-location and dark fibre cases remain unresolved.
According to the DRHP, NSE has proposed a settlement payment of Rs 1,491.21 crore to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to resolve the matter.
The disclosures have been made under the material legal proceedings section of the IPO papers and relate to cases currently pending before the Supreme Court, SEBI and other judicial and regulatory forums.
In the dark fibre matter, SEBI had raised concerns that certain trading members were provided dedicated point-to-point connectivity through an unauthorised service provider, allegedly giving them a latency advantage over other market participants.
