Yathindra seeks release of ₹887 crore pending grants for Karnataka ULBs

Bengaluru: Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah has urged the Centre to expedite the release of ₹887 crore in pending grants allocated to Karnataka’s urban local bodies (ULBs) under the 15th Finance Commission.

Yathindra met Satyendra Singh, secretary of the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs, in New Delhi and sought early release of the funds. He shared details of the meeting on social media platform X, stating that he had submitted a request for necessary action.

According to the minister, Karnataka’s urban local bodies have been allocated a total grant of ₹1,385 crore for the 2025-26 financial year. Of this, ₹887 crore is earmarked for 316 ULBs across the state, while ₹498 crore has been allocated to the Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBA).

The ₹887 crore meant for the state’s other urban local bodies is yet to be released, he said.

Yathindra stressed that the timely disbursal of the funds would help accelerate ongoing development works in urban areas. Finance Commission grants are an important source of funding for civic infrastructure and other development activities undertaken by urban local bodies.

The pending allocation is expected to support projects within the jurisdictions of municipalities and other urban bodies across Karnataka. The minister has sought the Centre’s intervention to ensure that the funds reach the local bodies without further delay.
