Ahmedabad, Aug 22 (IANS) The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch on Saturday registered a case against a user on social media platform X for allegedly circulating a fabricated post claiming that Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi would replace Bhupendra Patel as the state’s Chief Minister and that Patel would be made the Governor.
The case was registered after the account identified as Pawan Tyagi (@PAWANTYAGI_07) published the post on X.
According to the Crime Branch, the content was false and fabricated and was posted in a manner that could harm the reputation of Chief Minister Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Sanghavi, as well as the Constitutional position of the Chief Minister.
The Hindi text in the post reads: “Big breaking news, Gujarat Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi will be made the Chief Minister of Gujarat. CM Bhupendra Patel will be made the Governor.”
The Crime Branch said the post was subsequently circulated on social media and alleged that the electronic content had been created and published as part of a criminal conspiracy.
The post was available through the X account @PAWANTYAGI_07.
Tyagi’s X bio describes him as “Executive Editor, Pyara Hindustan News Network, The News Channel, Swayamsevak”.
The Crime Branch has registered the offence under Sections 336(4), 353(1) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
The case has been registered for legal investigation into the creation and circulation of the alleged fabricated electronic content.
The police said that action would be taken against people who upload false or misleading posts on social media that could create fear or panic among the public.
The case comes after the post made a specific claim about a possible change in Gujarat’s top political office, naming both Patel and Sanghavi.
The Crime Branch has described the claim as “false and fabricated” and is investigating the circumstances surrounding its creation and circulation.
The police have also appealed to members of the public to take note of the action being taken against such social media posts and to exercise caution regarding misleading content circulated through social media platforms.
