Lucknow, July 24 (IANS) Plans are afoot in Uttar Pradesh to shift the legislative business from the ‘archaic’ to the state-of-the-art Vidhan Bhawan, which will be built in the shape of a lotus, a design with striking similarity to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s official symbol.
The architectural landmark will be developed over a sprawling area of about 200 acres in the upscale locality of Lucknow, and the construction work is likely to begin by early next year.
Awanish K. Awasthi, the advisor to UP CM Yogi Adityanath, shared the pictures of the proposed Lotus-inspired legislative building, giving a sneak peek of the expansive structure that will become the new pivot of the state’s legislative and administrative business.
According to sources, the design for the ambitious project, to be built in Gomti Nagar, has been agreed upon by various departments and is awaiting final nod.
Sources also said that 48 leading consultancy firms have submitted their master plans and designs for the project. Following an evaluation of these proposals, the final design has been virtually finalised. The proposed layout has also been submitted to the Lucknow Development Authority.
Under the proposed design, the main Legislative Assembly building will resemble lotus petals when viewed from above. The central section of the building will house the chambers for the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council, while administrative offices and other auxiliary units are set to be developed around it.
The project aims to create an integrated legislative and administrative complex, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities capable of meeting future requirements.
Awasthi took to social media and said that Lucknow was poised to gain a new architectural identity with this landmark building.
“Lucknow is set to get a new architectural landmark with the proposed Lotus-inspired Vidhan Bhawan in Sahara Shahar Gomti Nagar,” he said.
He said that the world-class legislative complex would be developed across 200 acres. The facility will have a new Legislative Assembly hall with seating capacity of 700 members, a Legislative Council with 200 seats, a joint session hall with 1,000 seats, and parking facilities for over 5,000 vehicles.
“Construction work is expected to begin next year,” he added.
Awasthi further said the architectural landmark will become a new hallmark for the capital, reflecting the state government’s vision for modern governance, sprawling infrastructure and future-ready outlook.
The complex, upon completion, will not only become a new hub of the state’s legislative activities but will also add a new chapter to Lucknow’s identity, owing to its distinctive architecture and modern design.
