New Delhi/Imphal, Oct 8 (IANS) Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday assured the Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh of taking up all projects and issues raised by the state government, including the development of two vital National Highways.
A senior official of Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Imphal said that the Manipur Chief Minister on Thursday called on Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways at his official residence in New Delhi and raised various issues related to the development of the state.
The official added that during the meeting, the Chief Minister urged Gadkari to start the construction work of the Shangshak-Tengnoupal Highway and requested him to sanction the proposed elevated highway project in Imphal city.
He also urged the Union Minister to ensure the completion of the ongoing works of National Highway-37 and National Highway-2 during this working season to improve connectivity and ease the hardships faced by the people.
The Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) and the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati National Highway (NH-2) are the two crucial lifelines of Manipur, connecting the state with the rest of the country.
Union Minister Gadkari told the Chief Minister Khemchand Singh that the proposed elevated highway project in Imphal is under active consideration of the Ministry.
He also assured the Chief Minister that all projects and issues raised by the state government will be duly addressed and that his Ministry will extend all possible help to Manipur for its overall development and road connectivity.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh on Thursday separately held meetings with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi and discussed various issues of the state.
Both the Union Home Minister and the Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister told the Chief Minister that they would soon visit Manipur.
