Patna, Aug 12 (IANS) A 24-year-old man was seriously injured after three bike-borne assailants allegedly opened fire on him in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar police station area late on Tuesday night.
The victim, identified as Shubham Kumar Yadav, was out for a walk near Bhupatipur Jyotish Baba Road, close to his residence, when the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and fired four consecutive shots at him.
Shubham sustained serious injuries and collapsed at the spot.
Following the shooting, the three assailants fled from the area on their motorcycle while brandishing weapons.
The sound of gunfire triggered panic among local residents.
People rushed to the scene and took the injured youth to a private nursing home, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be critical.
Ramkrishna Nagar police reached the scene after receiving information about the shooting and began examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to preliminary information, Shubham had gone out for a walk after dinner at around 10:30 p.m..
The attackers arrived on an Apache motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing the area.
The entire incident was captured by a nearby CCTV camera. Police are examining footage from cameras installed in and around the area in an attempt to identify the three suspects and establish the sequence of events.
Investigators are also questioning family members, local residents and possible eyewitnesses to gather information about the attackers and their motorcycle.
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established. Police are investigating several possible angles, including property disputes, personal enmity and other financial or local disputes.
According to the SHO of Ramkrishna Nagar police station, preliminary investigation has indicated that Shubham had been in contact with people involved in property dealing.
Police are examining this lead as part of their investigation.
Patna Sadar-2 SDPO Ranjan Kumar said police received information about the shooting of a 24-year-old man.
He confirmed that the injured youth had been admitted to a private hospital and said the motive behind the attack remained unclear.
According to the SDPO, police are investigating all possible angles, and teams have been deployed to identify and apprehend those responsible.
No arrests have been made so far in connection with the shooting.
Police teams are conducting technical investigations and analysing CCTV footage in an effort to trace the suspects.
Officers are also collecting information from residents and witnesses regarding the physical appearance of the attackers and details of the motorcycle used in the crime.
The incident has raised concerns among residents, particularly because the assailants allegedly opened fire in a residential area and managed to escape before being intercepted.
The police are continuing their investigation and efforts to locate the three suspects.
