Hyderabad, June 23 (IANS) Tension gripped a village in Telangana’s Medak district on Tuesday as rivalry between two families claimed two lives during the last 24 hours.
Police deployed additional forces in Suraram village in Chinna Shankarampet mandal to prevent any untoward incident.
Tension prevailed in the village after a youth was killed in an alleged targeted attack by using an autorickshaw, and hours later, the deceased’s relatives murdered the main accused’s father.
According to police, a youth named Sridhar was on his way to Anantasagar village in Chegunta mandal on a motorbike when an autorickshaw rammed into the bike on Monday, killing him in what is suspected to be a targeted attack.
The deceased’s family members alleged that R. Prabhakar, also a resident of Suraram, deliberately killed him due to previous enmity.
They staged a protest and refused to allow the police to shift the body until justice is done. Senior police officials pacified the protestors and convinced them to agree to shift it to the government hospital at Toopran for a postmortem examination.
Sridhar’s family members went to the house of Prabhakar on Monday midnight to take revenge. However, Prabhakar was not at home. They later found Prabhakar’s father, Yadagiri, near an eatery and attacked him. They whisked away Yadagiri and, after attacking him with boulders, threw him in a stream, resulting in his death.
Police rushed to the spot, pulled out Yadagiri’s body from the stream and shifted it to the government hospital at Narsapur for a post-mortem examination. Police registered a case and took up an investigation.
Those who attacked and killed Yadagiri have reportedly surrendered to the police.
The killings led to high tension in the village. Amid fears of further violence between the two rival families, police deployed additional force in the village.
Senior police officials visited the village. An officer said an investigation was underway into both cases.
