Rajasthan fake letter controversy: Four accused being interrogated in Jaipur

Jaipur, April 23 (IANS) In connection with a fake letter regarding women’s reservation, purportedly issued in the name of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, that went viral on social media, interrogation of four accused is currently underway, police officials said on Thursday.

The Rajasthan Police had earlier arrested four individuals, including one woman, who were brought to Jaipur on Tuesday by the Jyoti Nagar police station.

According to DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj, the accused have been identified as Bilal Khan (27), Nikhil Prajapat (22), and Inam Ahmed (29), all residents of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, as well as Amrita Dhumal (37), a resident of Mohali, Punjab.

Police are currently interrogating the accused to ascertain the origin and spread of the forged document. The case was initiated following a formal complaint filed by a news channel whose logo was misused in the viral letter, which went viral in the name of Raje. Investigators are examining which AI tools may have been used to create the document and the specific channels through which it was circulated. Authorities are also probing the possibility of a larger network being involved.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken a stern view of the handover of three Congress IT Cell workers to the Rajasthan Police without due legal procedure. The Court observed that, in the absence of a judicial order or transit remand, the action appears prima facie illegal.

A Division Bench questioned the conduct of the Bhopal Police and directed the Police Commissioner to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Radhamohan Das Agarwal, Rajasthan in-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party, strongly defended Vasundhara Raje, stating that the party stands firmly with her.

He said the matter is being taken seriously and that appropriate directions have been issued to the administration for action.

Agarwal alleged that members of the Congress party have often been accused of engaging in such conspiracies, while reiterating that Raje has already clarified her position publicly.

He emphasised that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved, irrespective of political affiliation. The remarks come amid a broader controversy over a viral letter allegedly linked to a leader associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

In connection with the case, Bhopal Police had detained three individuals linked to the Congress IT Cell. Congress leaders objected to the detentions and indicated possible legal action.

Speaking to the media, Agarwal said that describing Vasundhara Raje as “helpless” would invite public ridicule, calling her a symbol of women’s empowerment. Addressing questions about the relatively low number of women ministers in the Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, he said leadership decisions evolve, adding that change, expansion, and evaluation are continuous processes.
