Islamabad, Aug 6 (IANS) At least nine people, including four children and three women, were killed and seven others injured as rains continued to wreak havoc in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Over 100 houses have also been damaged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as heavy rains triggered landslides and flash floods.
Several rain-related incidents have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat, Khyber, Buner, Abbottabad, Upper Chitral and Lower Chitral areas in the ongoing monsoon spell that started on July 29, Pakistan’s leading Samaa TV network reported on Thursday citing details from the latest situation report.
Over 103 houses have also been damaged due to heavy rains and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Among these, 49 homes were destroyed fully while the remaining were partially damaged.
A total of eight animals were reported dead in Abbottabad and Buner as PDMA, Rescue 1122 and other relevant agencies continued conducting search and rescue operations in the impacted areas. Authorities were also carrying out damage assessment to determine the losses caused by the monsoon rains.
A total of 37 people have died and 36 injured in rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the start of the recent monsoon season.
On July 26, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan reported that the death toll from the monsoon rain, flooding and landslides has risen to 107 in the country since June 26.
According to NDMA, 344 people have been injured in rain-related incidents while 447 houses were damaged, and 269 livestock have died, Samaa TV reported.
The NDMA had urged residents, particularly those living in vulnerable areas, to remain vigilant and follow official safety advisories as monsoon rains continue in parts of the country.
