
New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS) A man was allegedly beaten to death with lathis and sticks in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase 3 area early Sunday morning, officials said.
According to the police, an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the New Ashok Nagar police station at around 5 a.m., following which a police team reached the spot and began examining the circumstances that led to the man’s death.
According to the initial information available with the police, the man succumbed to his injuries at the spot after being beaten. However, the exact circumstances preceding the assault and the events that resulted in the attack have not yet been ascertained.
Police officials are investigating the sequence of events and attempting to establish what happened immediately before the assault. Investigators are also working to determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation and the subsequent death.
The identity of the deceased has not been established so far. Police are making efforts to identify the victim.
At present, police have not disclosed details regarding the possible motive behind the attack or the identities of the people allegedly involved in the assault.
Speaking to IANS, a security guard identified as Nandlal Yadav said that he witnessed the incident at around 4 a.m. and claimed that two men were involved in the assault.
“There were two men. One was involved in beating the deceased with sticks and rods. They threatened me when I confronted the attackers. I came back and made a call to the police,” Yadav told reporters.
Following the information received about the incident, a police team reached the location and is currently examining the spot as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are collecting evidence from the scene, examining other available material and speaking to local residents about the incident.
