New Delhi, June 3 (IANS) Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala said on Wednesday that the Malviya Nagar blaze in the national capital, which claimed 21 lives, was a “big lesson” for the authorities. Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Delhi government for the incident, he alleged that the party does not understand the “fundamental basics of the country’s infrastructure”.
During an interaction with IANS, the Congress MP asserted that municipal officials, who are giving permissions for the buildings or who are ignoring the illegal construction “should learn the lesson”.
“Innumerable times people are losing lives; infrastructure is getting damaged and there is so much of panic among people. Whenever such incidents happen, the government officials and the Ministry give some statements but there should be a concrete thought process to build a proper infrastructure to prevent such incidents,” he said.
Referring to BJP’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision, Chamala said: “They (BJP) don’t have the fundamental basics of understanding the infrastructure in this country. This is a big lesson.”
While praying for the families of those who lost their lives in the fire incident, the Congress MP added: “Being a public representative myself, we all have the collective responsibility to take proper measures to make sure such incidents are not repeated in the country.”
Chamala also responded to questions regarding BJP President Nitin Nabin, who had said a day before, that though Telangana became a separate state after a prolonged struggle of the region’s people, their original dreams have remained unfulfilled.
During Telangana Formation Day celebrations on Tuesday in Delhi, Nabin had alleged that Telangana had been reduced to “merely an ATM” and claimed its resources were being “displayed in the court of Congress”.
Reacting to Nabin’s remark, Chamala said that the BJP President is “not aware” about the role of the then UPA government and the role played by 12 Congress MPs belonging to Telangana during that time.
“There were 33 MPs from Congress from a united Andhra Pradesh, 12 Lok Sabha MPs were from Telangana, who went all in to fight for the sake of Telangana,” he added.
He asserted: “I just want to tell Nitin Nabin ji that there was no single MP from BJP during that time.”
Chamala claimed that Nabin is trying to “divert” the people’s attention in Telangana saying that the state’s formation was not the achievement of Congress, and that it is the “achievement of the local leaders”.
Alleging that farmers in Telangana are being treated partially, the Congress MP said: “You are buying 38 per cent of rice produced by the farmers in Telangana whereas you are buying 80 per cent, 60 per cent or 70 per cent from other states? Why are Telangana farmers being partially treated?”
Moreover, Chamala accused Union Minister and BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy of not doing anything related to farmers or development in Telangana.
“So how will BJP be accepted in Telangana?” he asked.
Meanwhile, reacting on the transfers of CBSE Chairman and Secretary, Chamala said: “So easily they (Centre) are trying to transfer the people to do whitewashing.”
“Why is the Education Minister (Dharmendra Pradhan) not resigning despite so many flaws in the system?” the Congress MP asked, reiterating the demand of Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
According to Chamala, the BJP thinks that people will forget about such incidents after a period of time.
He added that the transfer of such (CBSE) officers will not have much impact.
