Jharkhand: ‘Natural death’ turns into murder case after body exhumed, daughter among three held

Ranchi, April 28 (IANS) In a dramatic twist, a case initially believed to be a natural death in Jharkhand has turned into a suspected murder case, after police exhumed a woman’s body from her grave in Ranchi’s Doranda area, officials said on Tuesday.

The dramatic turn of events unfolded in the Manitola locality of Ranchi, where the woman had already been laid to rest following what was presumed to be a natural death. However, emerging clues and suspicious inputs prompted police to suspect foul play and to reopen the case, eventually leading to the exhumation of the body in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.

The remains have been sent to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for a detailed postmortem, which officials say will be crucial in establishing the exact cause and the manner in which the woman died.

What has deepened the shock is the alleged involvement of the victim’s own daughter. Police have arrested three people in connection with the case, including the woman’s biological daughter, whom investigators suspect played a central role in the commission of the crime.

According to officials, preliminary findings point towards a premeditated conspiracy, with the daughter allegedly acting in collusion with two accomplices. All three accused are currently being interrogated separately as investigators piece together the sequence of events, the method used in the killing, and the motive behind it.

While the exact motive remains under investigation, police said they are exploring all possible angles, including property disputes and family discord. Officials indicated that more details could emerge as the probe progresses.

The case, which has taken a dramatic turn from burial to exhumation, has sent ripples across the locality, with residents expressing disbelief over the gruesome allegations.

Police said they are meticulously gathering evidence to ensure a strong case against the accused.
