Agartala, July 18 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said that maintaining humanity, sensitivity, and professionalism is among the foremost responsibilities of police personnel, while reiterating the state government’s commitment to building a modern, technology‑driven and people‑oriented police force.
Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, was addressing the passing‑out parade of the 92nd batch of newly appointed Police Constables (Male) at the headquarters of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 2nd Battalion in R.K. Nagar. He noted that the Tripura Police has a legacy of more than 150 years, dating back to the princely rule.
He said dedication to duty earns both respect and recognition in society, adding that the government is committed to making the Tripura Police a modern, technology‑based and people‑oriented force.
The Chief Minister said that 469 Police Constables and one TSR Rifleman (General Duty) successfully passed out after completing their training.
“Today is a day of pride and joy for the entire police force of Tripura. We all know that the history of Tripura Police is very old. Beginning in the princely era, it gradually evolved into an organised force in the modern era,” he noted.
Saha recalled that the erstwhile kings of Tripura introduced their own administrative and policing system in the 13th century, which later developed into the present structure in 1965. In January 2024, Tripura Police celebrated its 150th anniversary at Pragya Bhavan.
He added that Tripura Police was honoured with the President’s Colours for its success in combating extremism and terrorism over the past three decades.
Extending congratulations and best wishes to the new recruits, Saha said the people of the state have immense faith and high expectations from the police.
He pointed out that the government is providing employment opportunities through transparent recruitment. On May 13 last year, appointment letters were handed over to 975 young men and women selected as Constables in Tripura Police.
Referring to another passing‑out parade, Saha said that on May 21, 2026, he attended the ceremony of the 51st and 52nd batches of male and female constables at the KTDS Police Training Academy. Out of the 476 constables who passed out on that occasion, 318 were women.
He said the increasing participation of women reflects the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on empowering women.
Highlighting the role of police in public service, the Chief Minister said personnel are often the first point of hope for people in distress.
He stressed that apart from enforcing the law, maintaining humanity, sensitivity, and professionalism is a primary responsibility.
He expressed satisfaction that trainees received instruction in traffic management, law and order, jungle warfare, disaster management, and cybercrime, which would help them discharge their duties efficiently.
Saha said the government has attached the highest priority to ensuring the safety and security of women and children.
He announced that recruitment for 218 Sub‑Inspectors would begin shortly, along with approval for 916 more police constables to strengthen the force.
Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Director General of Police Anurag, Home Secretary Abhishek Singh, and several senior civil and police officials were present at the parade.
