Guwahati, Aug 20 (IANS) Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Thursday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to accelerating development and welfare initiatives as the BJP-led NDA government in the state completed 100 days of its third consecutive term.
“Building a ‘Viksit Assam’,” Sarma said in a post on X, adding that the completion of 100 days was an occasion to reaffirm the government’s commitment to serving the people with sincerity and creating new milestones in development and welfare.
The latest milestone comes months after the BJP-led alliance secured a decisive mandate in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, returning to power for a third consecutive term under Sarma’s leadership.
The election result marked a significant expansion of the BJP’s electoral footprint in the state. The BJP won 82 of the 90 seats it contested, crossing the majority mark in the 126-member Assembly on its own for the first time.
Its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), won 10 seats each, taking the NDA’s overall tally to 102.
The Congress emerged as the principal Opposition party with 19 seats, while its campaign was led by state Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi, who suffered defeat in Jorhat.
The election also recorded a voter turnout of 85.96 per cent, reflecting high voter participation across the state. Sarma, who retained the Jalukbari constituency with a substantial margin, was sworn in as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term on May 12, marking the beginning of the NDA’s third government in Assam.
The government’s 100-day narrative is centred on development, infrastructure, welfare delivery and economic growth, with the Chief Minister repeatedly stressing the twin objectives of development and public welfare.
The BJP’s historic solo majority has also strengthened Sarma’s political position, giving the government a broader mandate to pursue its long-term development agenda.
As Assam moves into the next phase of the NDA government, the focus is expected to remain on translating the electoral mandate into visible improvements in infrastructure, employment, governance and welfare delivery.
Sarma concluded his post with “Joi Aai Axom”, reaffirming the government’s stated vision of building a more developed and prosperous Assam.
