Gandhinagar, July 7 (IANS) The Gujarat government has taken another step in preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi announcing that a meeting of the proposed Board of Directors of the Games’ organising company had been held to discuss the roadmap, planning and coordination required to stage the international multi-sport event.
In a post on social media platform X, Sanghavi said the meeting marked “a significant step towards bringing the Commonwealth Games 2030 to Gujarat”.
“Attended the meeting of the proposed Board of Directors of the Organising Company to discuss the roadmap, planning, and collaborative efforts required for hosting this prestigious global sporting event,” he wrote.
He added: “Together, we move towards creating world-class sporting infrastructure and opportunities for athletes.”
The meeting is part of the state’s preparations following Ahmedabad’s confirmation as host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will mark the centenary edition of the event.
The Games are scheduled to be held in October 2030 and will be the second Commonwealth Games hosted by India, following New Delhi’s staging in 2010.
Preparatory work has accelerated over recent months as Gujarat advances governance and organisational arrangements for the Games.
Authorities have been working to establish a dedicated organising company to oversee planning, infrastructure development, operational coordination, and the delivery of the event.
The structure is intended to bring together representatives from the state and central governments, sporting bodies and other stakeholders responsible for hosting the Games.
Preparations are also underway for the facilities to host venues for the upcoming global sporting events.
The Commonwealth Games are expected to feature athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations across multiple sports.
Ahmedabad’s successful bid forms part of India’s broader effort to strengthen its credentials as a host of major international sporting events, alongside its ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
