Srinagar, May 6 (IANS) Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district said on Wednesday that they have registered an FIR against the wife and son of a sitting MLA and Congress leader, Peerzada Mohammad Syed, for allegedly locking a government-run hospital.
Officials said that Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against the wife and son of the Anantnag MLA, Peerzada Mohammad Syed, for allegedly locking the hospital.
The FIR was registered at Achabal police station, in South Kashmir’s district, against Syed’s wife and son after they allegedly locked a health facility in the Damhal Khosipora area of the district, the officials said. The building housing the health facility reportedly belongs to the MLA’s family and was provided for establishing a primary health centre in 2008.
However, the family claims that earlier this year, the MLA had written to the Anantnag chief medical officer seeking relocation of the health centre, claiming the building was in dilapidated condition.
In a video on social media, the wife of the MLA has accused the officials of misbehaving with her when they came with police to forcibly break the lock of the building.
Primary health centres are operating across Jammu and Kashmir in almost every village, and in most cases, these facilities are running in private accommodations for which the owners are paid rent. In many such cases, the owners want their premises to be vacated because the rent paid is less than the present market rates or the building has suffered damage due to misuse and absence of repair and renovation, etc.
Peerzada Mohammad Syed is a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, representing the Anantnag constituency as a member of the Congress party.
Previously, he served as an MLA in the 1987, 2002 and 2008 elections from the Kokernag Assembly seat. He has previously served as the president of the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee.
