New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar will embark on a two-day official visit to Russia starting Sunday to co-chair the 27th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday.

The scheduled visit from August 23-24 is at the invitation of the first Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Denis Manturov.

During the visit, EAM will also meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and exchange perspectives on regional and global issues, the MEA mentioned.

The visit comes amid continued efforts by India and Russia to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

Earlier, a meeting of the Working Group on Planning of the Russia-India Intergovernmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation was held in New Delhi, during which both sides discussed ways to expand interaction between armed forces.

“On August 20-21, a meeting of the Working Group on Planning of the Russia-India Intergovernmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation was held in New Delhi. The sides reviewed the results of the joint activity plan for the current year, outlined measures for 2027 and discussed ways to expand interaction between the armed forces of the two countries,” the Russian Embassy in India stated on its official Telegram channel on Friday.

In his Independence Day greetings to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Putin also spoke about the fruitful cooperation between India and Russia.

In July, EAM Jaishankar held a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Lavrov, in Manila and reiterated India’s strong concern about the safety of Indian seafarers in the region.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed various aspects of bilateral ties, the Ukraine conflict and the Gulf situation.

“An in-depth review of our bilateral relations with FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia. Reiterated our strong concern regarding the safety of Indian seafarers in the region. Discussed various aspects of our partnership, including trade & investment, energy and connectivity, science & technology, and mobility. Also exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict and the Gulf situation,” EAM Jaishankar posted on X.
