Chennai, July 20 (IANS) The DMK’s Youth Wing entered its 47th year on Monday, marking another milestone in the history of one of the party’s most influential organisational arms.
To commemorate the occasion, Youth Wing Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin shared a message on social media, urging party volunteers to prepare for a new phase of political and public engagement.
In a post on X, Udhayanidhi reflected on the journey of the Youth Wing, describing it as an organisation that has grown from a small movement into one of the strongest pillars of the DMK. He called upon party workers to continue strengthening the organisation and to actively take the party’s ideology and welfare initiatives to the people.
“The DMK Youth Wing, which was launched under the leadership of party president M.K. Stalin during a challenging period for the party by the #MISA_Batch, has today entered its 47th year. Let us begin the next innings of the Youth Wing by carrying out policy-oriented initiatives and public service activities that meet the needs of the times,” Udhayanidhi said in his post.
Along with the message, he shared a commemorative video recalling the formation of the Youth Wing and highlighting its growth over the decades.
The DMK Youth Wing was officially recognised as an affiliated wing of the party on July 20, 1980, during a function held in Madurai.
M.K. Stalin was appointed as its first State Organiser and went on to lead the organisation for more than three decades, from 1980 to 2017.
Under his leadership, the Youth Wing expanded significantly and evolved into one of the party’s most active and influential grassroots organisations. Udhayanidhi Stalin assumed charge as the State Secretary of the Youth Wing on July 4, 2019.
Since taking over, he has overseen a series of organisational and public welfare initiatives, including large-scale membership drives, recruitment of young volunteers, desilting of waterbodies, environmental campaigns and several community service programmes.
The Youth Wing has also intensified efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots network by forming youth committees at the local level, organising door-to-door outreach campaigns and conducting extensive membership enrolment drives across Tamil Nadu.
Party leaders say these initiatives are aimed at expanding the DMK’s organisational base while ensuring that the party’s policies, programmes and welfare commitments reach people in every part of the state.
