New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) The South-West district police in Delhi has successfully solved a diamond theft case and arrested two accused persons. The police recovered the stolen diamond, one stolen mobile phone, and two additional mobile phones from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Manish Chandra (22), a resident of Almora in Uttarakhand, and Ankit Kumar (22), a resident of Mahipalpur in New Delhi.
According to the police, a case was registered at the South Campus Police Station on July 10, under an FIR under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), after a complainant reported the theft of a diamond of substantial value.
The complainant said that the diamond had been stolen by her housekeeping staff member, Manish Chandra.
After the registration of the case, a dedicated police team comprising Assistant Sub-Inspector Satpal, Head Constable Rajender, and Constable Ravi Shankar was constituted under the supervision of Inspector Ravinder Kumar Verma, Station House Officer of South Campus Police Station, and the overall guidance of Assistant Commissioner of Police Babbar Bhan of Vasant Vihar Sub-Division.
During the investigation, police found that Manish Chandra had joined the complainant’s residence as housekeeping staff and allegedly stole the diamond a few days later. After committing the theft, he left the job and went into hiding.
Investigators revealed that Manish attempted to sell the stolen diamond but was unable to find a buyer. He then contacted his associate, Ankit Kumar, for assistance.
Ankit circulated photographs of the diamond through his mobile phone in an effort to identify potential buyers and facilitate its sale.
The police team conducted extensive technical analysis, electronic surveillance, and intelligence gathering.
Several raids were carried out in Hyderabad, Almora, and multiple locations across Delhi.
Based on sustained efforts and credible information, both accused were eventually apprehended from the Nanakpura area of Moti Bagh in New Delhi.
During police questioning, Manish Chandra confessed to the theft.
Acting on his disclosure, police recovered the stolen diamond.
Officers also recovered a mobile phone from his possession, which was found to be linked to a separate theft case registered through e-FIR under Section 303(2) of the BNS at Kamla Market Police Station in Central Delhi.
Another mobile phone was also recovered from Manish, and its ownership is currently being verified.
Police said that Ankit Kumar admitted that he was acquainted with Manish and had attempted to help him sell the stolen diamond by sharing its photographs with potential buyers. The mobile phone used for this purpose was also seized.
Manish Chandra has studied up to Class 12 and was employed as housekeeping staff, while Ankit Kumar has studied up to Class 11 and works as housekeeping staff at a hotel.
The recoveries made in the case include one stolen diamond, one stolen mobile phone, and two additional mobile phones, including one containing photographs of the stolen diamond.
Police said the operation has resulted in the successful resolution of two cases, including the diamond theft case registered at South Campus Police Station and the stolen mobile phone case registered at the Kamla Market Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
