New Delhi, June 15 (IANS) A Delhi court on Monday sent four terror suspects allegedly linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Mumbai underworld network to judicial custody till June 22 in connection with a purported conspiracy to carry out terror attacks in major Indian cities.
The order was passed by the Patiala House Court, which remanded accused Harvinder Singh, Manjeet Singh, Gagandeep Singh and Ang Kami Lama to judicial custody for one week.
The four accused were produced before the court after the completion of their police custody, during which they were interrogated by the Delhi Police Special Cell for 16 days.
The case relates to an ongoing investigation into an alleged terror module suspected to have links with Pakistan’s ISI and operatives associated with the Mumbai underworld network.
According to the Delhi Police, the four accused were arrested in connection with alleged anti-national activities and are being investigated under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other penal provisions.
Earlier, on June 10, the Patiala House Court had extended the police custody of the four accused by five days after the Delhi Police informed the court that the investigation was at a crucial stage.
During the hearing, the Special Cell had submitted that provisions relating to terrorist acts, raising funds for terrorist activities, and criminal conspiracy had been invoked against the accused.
The Delhi Police has maintained that the investigation is focused on tracing the larger network behind the alleged module and gathering evidence regarding its purported links with handlers based in Pakistan.
The Special Cell has said efforts are underway to identify other individuals connected to the alleged conspiracy and establish the operational structure of the network.
According to the Delhi Police, coordinated operations carried out across Delhi and several northern states led to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition, including Pakistan-manufactured hand grenades, Glock pistols and live cartridges.
The probe revealed that the terror module conducted reconnaissance of sensitive locations, including government installations, security establishments and crowded religious places in Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab, as part of a larger conspiracy.
