Ahmedabad, July 22 (IANS) Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Jagdish Vishwakarma on Wednesday accused the Congress of “violating the dignity of democracy and spreading anarchy”, saying that while every political party has the right to protest, constitutional norms and the security of the Prime Minister’s residence must be respected.
Vishwakarma made the remarks while leading a BJP sit-in protest outside the Congress headquarters at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan in Ahmedabad.
The demonstration was organised in response to the Congress protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon over the alleged NEET paper leak and its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Addressing party workers, Vishwakarma said, “In a democracy, every political party has the right to protest, but the Congress is violating the dignity of democracy and spreading anarchy.”
He said that while students’ concerns and issues of public interest should be discussed in a responsible and constructive manner, the Congress was attempting to use the issue for political purposes.
“Having remained out of power for years, the Congress is now engaged in conspiracies to mislead the youth for political gain,” he added.
Referring to the NEET controversy, Vishwakarma said, “The Central government has conducted a transparent investigation into the NEET examination issue, taken strict action against those responsible, and implemented effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”
He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had issued “clear and strict instructions” to the concerned authorities regarding the issue of paper leaks.
The BJP leader also said that the Congress protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence had violated democratic norms, the dignity of the office of the Prime Minister and established security protocols.
According to the party, the protest in Ahmedabad was organised to register its opposition to what it described as the Congress’ attempt to surround the Prime Minister’s residence.
Vishwakarma also referred to India’s international standing under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, saying, “More than 34 countries across the world have conferred their highest honours on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflecting India’s growing strength on the global stage.”
He also claimed that development achieved under the present government had strengthened public confidence in the BJP and said: “The aware people of Gujarat and the country will never allow the political conspiracies of the Congress to succeed.”
The protest took place outside Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan in Ahmedabad’s Paldi area, where BJP workers assembled carrying banners and raising slogans condemning the Congress’ actions.
Among those present were state general secretaries Aniruddh Dave and Prashant Korat, state spokesperson Anil Patel, Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, BJP city and district presidents from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, MLAs, party office-bearers, senior leaders and workers.
