New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas chief Chirag Paswan on Tuesday received a death threat with an anonymous letter saying that he would be killed by “hardcore terrorists”.
“You will be killed shortly by hardcore terrorists,” the letter read.
Following the incident, Paswan’s secretary wrote to the Union Home Ministry, seeking a probe into the threat. Moreover, the Ministry has been requested to increase the security of the LJP-RV President.
Speaking to IANS, LJP-RV MP Arun Bharti said: “A threat letter was sent to his ministry, stating, ‘You will be killed by hardcore terrorists.’ This is a matter of great concern for us—for his family, the entire party, our leaders and workers. We have written to the Home Ministry regarding this and demanded that the entire incident be investigated and appropriate legal action be taken against whoever is found guilty.”
“We have also demanded adequate security for our leader, Chirag Paswan, because prior to this a similar incident had taken place in Bihar, which was investigated by police and his security was increased. We don’t want any lapses when it comes to his security,” he added.
According to the LJP-RV MP, some people “with criminal intentions” may not like the way Chirag Paswan speaks to the media about every community and section in the society.
“Whatever it is, there should be a thorough probe and heightened security should be provided to Chirag Paswan, whether in Delhi, Patna or anywhere in the country,” he reiterated.
Paswan was recently embroiled in a war of words with fellow Minister Jitan Ram Majhi over sub-categorisation within Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) reservations.
Manjhi and his son, Bihar Minister Santosh Suman, have been pressing for the sub‑categorisation and a “quota within a quota” in SC/ST reservations, arguing that benefits have not reached all communities equally.
Paswan countered that viewing reservation through the lens of economic status could dilute its original purpose. He called for a broader constitutional and parliamentary debate before any changes were made.
Moreover, Majhi had hit out at Paswan, alleging that the latter was indulging in “unconstitutional work” by opposing the demand.
