New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested three persons, including a public servant of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), while they were allegedly transacting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh in the national capital.
The agency registered a case against an Inspector of MCD and others on allegations that they were engaged in corrupt practices of accepting bribes for permitting the installation and display of billboards, hoardings and LED displays even after the expiry of the tender period. The accused were also allegedly allowing the installation of additional billboards beyond the sanctioned numbers in return for substantial illegal gratification.
Following the registration of the FIR, the CBI laid a trap on September 16, 2026. During the operation, a Senior Secretariat Assistant of the MCD and two private persons were arrested red-handed while exchanging the bribe amount of Rs 15 lakh in New Delhi.
The arrested accused have been identified as Anil Kumar alias Khatri, Senior Secretariat Assistant (SSA) in the Advertisement Department of the South and Najafgarh Zone of MCD; Anant Kumar Sharma, Director of M/s Naks Creators Private Limited; and Dilip Patel, a representative of the same firm, said a press release.
During searches conducted in connection with the case, the CBI recovered substantial cash amounting to Rs 25.25 lakh. Further searches at different locations are currently underway.
Officials said the investigation is in progress.
The case highlights alleged irregularities in the grant of permissions for outdoor advertising in the capital, where officials are accused of extending favours beyond the approved tender periods and sanctioned limits in exchange for bribes.
The CBI has taken the three accused into custody and is examining the role of other individuals who may have been involved in the racket.
The agency is also scrutinising records related to the grant of permissions for billboards and LED displays to establish the full extent of the alleged corruption. Further details are expected as the probe continues.
