Bihar weather: Orange Alert in 7 districts, Yellow in 12

Patna, Aug 20 (IANS) The Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts for 19 districts of Bihar, warning of rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning on Thursday.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.

The Meteorological Department has issued Orange Alert in Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnea and Katihar districts. The people of these districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph. They have been advised to remain indoors whenever possible.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for the residents of Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Samastipur, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur, Banka and Jamui.

These districts may receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

According to the forecast, unsettled weather is expected to continue across Bihar for the next three days.

On August 21, rainfall activity is expected to increase in northeastern and eastern Bihar.

Heavy rain is likely in East Champaran, West Champaran, Araria and Kishanganj.

On August 22, a Yellow Alert is expected across much of North Bihar, while an Orange Alert is likely for several parts of South Bihar. Gopalganj, Siwan, Rohtas, Kaimur and Buxar are among the districts facing adverse-weather warnings.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue in parts of northeastern and central Bihar.

Patna experienced sunny conditions in the morning, although the weather may turn cloudy later in the day.

Light rain is possible in some parts of the capital, with cloudy conditions likely to persist in several areas.

Bihar has so far recorded 39 per cent less rainfall than normal, but monsoon remains active.

The expected rainfall over the coming days could help reduce the state’s rainfall deficit.

The Met Department officials, during thunderstorms and lightning, advised residents to stay indoors, avoid open fields and isolated trees, and follow official weather advisories.
