Bihar govt announces major education reforms, 1 lakh teacher recruitment plan in 5 years

Patna, May 23 (IANS) As part of the new plan, the Samrat Choudhary-led Bihar government announced that 100,000 teachers will be recruited over the next five years.

Around 20,000 appointments are proposed to be made every year.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said that recruitment advertisements will now be issued annually in the month of July to streamline and regularise the appointment process.

A high-level meeting in this regard was held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Patna, where Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari and senior leaders of the Education department were present.

Samrat Choudhary also directed the Education Department to formulate a transparent and simplified teacher transfer policy.

Under the proposed framework, female teachers would, wherever possible, be transferred to panchayats adjacent to their home panchayat within their home block and district.

The Chief Minister also directed that male teachers would be transferred to blocks adjoining their home block within their home district.

The move is aimed at making postings more practical and family-friendly while ensuring transparency in transfers.

Chief Minister Choudhary also announced a series of major initiatives aimed at strengthening the quality of education and improving administrative transparency in the state’s school system.

During a high-level review meeting of the department, the Chief Minister said that ensuring access to quality education for every child remains a top priority.

The Bihar government announced that school uniforms for students across the state will now be supplied through Jeevika Self Help Group.

Officials said that the initiative is expected to ensure the timely distribution of uniforms while simultaneously strengthening women’s empowerment by generating livelihood opportunities for women associated with self-help groups under Jeevika.

The Chief Minister said these measures are intended to improve educational infrastructure, enhance teacher availability, and promote inclusive development across Bihar’s school system.

The decision of Chief Minister Choudhary came in the backdrop of recent agitation by the BPSC Teacher Recruitment Examination aspirants who were demanding notification for the recruitment of teachers in Bihar.
