Jaipur, May 5 (IANS) Union Minister and Jodhpur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has delivered a commanding performance for the party in North Bengal during the West Bengal polls, securing victories in 26 out of 28 Assembly constituencies he campaigned in, an impressive strike rate of 93 per cent.
Camping in the region for more than 15 days, Shekhawat led an aggressive, ground-driven campaign across key districts of West Bengal, particularly in the strategically significant belt of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Siliguri.
These border districts are considered politically sensitive, making the scale of victory even more significant.
Shekhawat’s campaign combined high-energy outreach with booth-level precision.
From roadshows and public rallies to door-to-door mobilisation and worker coordination, the BJP’s poll campaign maintained constant momentum.
The BJP MP’s focus on strengthening booth management and building local networks proved decisive, officials from his office said, adding that he actively engaged with key social groups, including the Marwari community, helping the party consolidate a broad support base in the region.
The BJP’s wins under Shekhawat’s watch were marked by decisive margins, underlining the effectiveness of the campaign.
In Matigara–Naxalbari, the victory margin was of 1,04,265 votes, in Dabgram–Phulbari, it was of 97,715 votes, in Siliguri, it was of 73,192 votes, Alipurduar of 70,420 votes and Cooch Behar North, this margin was of 70,384 votes.
Several other Assembly constituencies also saw margins exceeding 50,000 votes, including Jalpaiguri, Mathabhanga, Maynaguri, and Kumargram, while seats like Madarihat, Phansidewa, and Falakata recorded margins above 40,000 votes.
Unlike conventional campaigning, Shekhawat’s approach focused on direct voter engagement in border areas, raising key issues such as security, infiltration, development, and regional identity.
This helped shape a narrative that resonated strongly with local voters in West Bengal.
Having earlier played a key role in the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, Shekhawat was once again entrusted with this critical region of North Bengal and he delivered emphatically.
Political observers view Shekhawat’s North Bengal strategy as a cornerstone of the BJP’s overall performance in the state, demonstrating how sustained ground presence and micro-level planning can translate into sweeping electoral gains.
