Quetta, Aug 13 (IANS) The Baloch armed groups claimed responsibility for a series of attacks targeting Pakistani forces and infrastructure across Pakistan’s Balochistan and Sindh provinces that resulted in the death of four military personnel, local media reported on Thursday.
In a statement to the media, United Baloch Army (UBA) spokesperson Mazar Baloch said that the group’s fighters attacked a Pakistani military checkpost at Daraz Beet, in Balochistan’s Bolan region, on Monday using a remote-controlled explosive device. He claimed that four military personnel were killed in the attack, while another sustained serious injuries.
According to Mazar Baloch, UBA fighters had been closely tracking military movements between the Daraz Beet and Panjra Bridge checkposts, collecting information about movements of convoys and personnel in the area.
Separately, the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) spokesperson Dostain Baloch said that the group’s fighters carried out an explosion targeting two 220kV electricity towers near Chattar in Naseerabad district in Balochistan on Tuesday night. He said explosives were planted at the towers before being detonated, resulting in extensive damage to both, The Balochistan Post reported.
In another incident, the BRG claimed that its fighters planted explosives at an agriculture office in Dhadar region of Balochistan’s Kachhi district, on August 9, causing severe damage to the building. The group alleged that the office was being used by the “occupying Pakistani state” to destroy the agriculture sector in Balochistan.
The BRG further said that the group’s fighters blew up two electricity towers near Shikarpur in Sindh on Monday night, resulting in severe damage.
Both Baloch armed groups vowed to continue operations against Pakistani forces until what they described as “complete independence of Balochistan.”
These latest incidents come against the backdrop of escalating attacks by Baloch groups targeting Pakistani military and police forces across Balochistan in recent days, resulting in heavy casualties and damage to infrastructure.
Earlier this week, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) took responsibility for 38 operations across Balochistan targeting Pakistani forces, claiming that over 32 military personnel and operatives were killed and dozens of others were injured, local media reported.
In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the attacks were carried out between August 1 and 8. He said that the group targeted Pakistani military convoys, vehicles, camps and foot patrols, as well as trade routes, bridges, railway infrastructure, police posts and vehicles transporting minerals and other goods.
