Mumbai, Oct 3 (IANS) Hollywood star Anne Hathaway opened up about navigating grief, anxiety and parenthood, saying that with time she has learned to approach life with more calm, grace and perspective.
During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Anne also reflected on how being a parent has taught her the importance of showing oneself compassion.
A video of her chat was shared on the show’s Instagram handle, with the caption: “@annehathaway shares how her outlook has changed as she prepares to welcome her third child.”
The video began with the “Princess Diaries” star saying: “There’s highs and lows to life, as we all know, and one of the things that’s really hard to get through is grief. And Adam and I have now weathered several seasons of very real grief together, and that either breaks you or it bonds you.”
“And so we’ve discovered how to laugh as a couple through just about anything, and then real heartbreak. And so I think I know now that I I’m sure we’ve talked about a version of this, but I have no interest in giving a single second of this precious life that we’re all in to anything that’s not really real.”
She added: “And so sometimes it happens, and the anxiety nips at your heels and all of those things. But I just think that there’s a larger arc going on that’s full of love and wonder, and I just try to stay connected to that. And that’s not something I knew how to do.”
The actress said that she more in the “choppy water” the first time around when she was pregnant.
“And I’m sure everybody feels this way, but the first time you do something, it’s so hard not to judge yourself. And you have nothing to base it on except that this feeling inside of you that you should or could be doing better.”
“And then I think that you just grow up a little bit, and you learn also, by the way, that this human that has been entrusted to you is learning everything from you,” said the star.
Anne added: “So if you don’t want them to suffer from that feeling of being really hard on themselves, you want to teach them grace with themselves, well, you better start with you.”
She concluded: “So I’d say that now what I have a whole lot more of is I have a lot more calm, a lot more grace, and a lot more perspective.”
