Mumbai, July 3 (IANS) Actress Ameesha Patel recalled a hilarious incident from the sets of ‘Humraaz’, revealing how the phenomenal success of ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ had almost disrupted the shoot.
She revealed how Gadar had left such a deep impression on audiences that fans refused to let Bobby Deol hug her during a crucial scene in Humraaz.
Appearing as a special guest on ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 5’, Ameesha shared a memory while filming the climax of Abbas-Mustan’s 2002 thriller ‘Humraaz’ at Jaipur Fort alongside Bobby Deol.
She revealed how an enthusiastic crowd interrupted the shoot after mistaking her on-screen identity for Sakeena from ‘Gadar’.
Recalling the incident, Ameesha said, “Jab main ‘Humraaz’ ki shooting kar rahi thi Bobby ji ke saath Jaipur Fort mein, toh climax shot mein Bobby had to come and hug me. Action hote hi wahan jama hua bheed zor-zor se chillane lagi, ‘Chhod de! Yeh toh tere bhai ki amanat hain! Tara Singh isko Pakistan se leke aaya hain, chhoona mat isse!’ Hum log wahan dekhne lage ki guys, calm down yeh film ki shooting hain! Akhir mein crowd ko dispatch karke humne bina logo ke sentiments hurt kiye shot poora kiya. So, it’s very nice to work with the Deols, they are lovely people.”
(When I was shooting for ‘Humraaz’ with Bobby ji at Jaipur Fort, Bobby had to come and hug me in the climax shot. As soon as ‘action’ was called, the crowd started shouting, ‘Leave her! She belongs to your brother! Tara Singh brought her back from Pakistan, don’t touch her!’ We kept telling them to calm down as it was only a film shoot. Eventually, after the crowd dispersed, we completed the scene without hurting anyone’s sentiments. It has always been wonderful working with the Deols. They are lovely people.)
Talking about ‘Humraaz’, the movie directed by Abbas-Mustan, released in 2002 and starred Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Ameesha Patel, Johnny Lever and Suhasini Mulay.
The movie, even after 24 years, is remembered for its powerful and thrilling storyline and performances. Songs like ‘Bardasht Nahi Kar Sakta’, ‘Aankhein Band Karke’ and others went on to become chartbusters.
Just a year before Humraaz, Ameesha had become a household name with Anil Sharma’s blockbuster ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’.
The actress essayed the female lead, Sakeena opposite Sunny Deol’s iconic Tara Singh. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema and created an unprecedented fan frenzy.
Sunny and Ameesha reunited more than two decades later for ‘Gadar 2’, which also turned out to be a massive box-office success.
