New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) Delhi BJP Media Head and Spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said on Sunday that leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Communist parties appear rattled after Sonam Wangchuk was shifted from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital.
He said Wangchuk was shifted to the hospital on the directions of the Delhi High Court, but the AAP and Communist parties are viewing it as a development that has denied them an opportunity to provoke and mislead the youth.
The Delhi BJP spokesperson said that since Wangchuk was removed from Jantar Mantar on Saturday, both AAP and the Communist parties have been deeply disappointed, and together they have deployed their entire cadre of around 1,200 to 1,500 workers there.
Kapoor said that if one visits Jantar Mantar, one would find either 500 to 700 middle-aged residents of JNU hostels or 250 to 300 less-educated young onlookers, neither of whom has anything to do with NEET or any other competitive examination.
The Delhi BJP Media Head and Spokesperson stated that the manner in which workers present at the AAP and Communist-sponsored gathering at Jantar Mantar have been misbehaving with mainstream media personnel since Saturday is clear evidence of the frustration arising from the failure of their agitation.
Earlier, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra said that the appearance of senior and highly paid lawyers, including MPs Kapil Sibal and Vivek Tankha, before the High Court to seek interim relief in the Wangchuk matter makes it evident that he is not an ordinary activist but a political pawn of the entire Opposition.
The Delhi BJP President said that the Delhi Police’s action to shift Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar to a hospital was in accordance with the High Court’s directions.
It was perhaps for the same reason that the High Court declined to grant any interim relief on the petition filed on behalf of Wangchuk.
Referring to the protest over the alleged NEET paper leak, Malhotra said that Wangchuk joined the hunger strike on June 28 in a demonstration sponsored by the Aam Aadmi Party, the Communist parties, and the Congress, even though the satisfactory re-examination of NEET had already been held on June 21.
This clearly demonstrates that the purpose of the hunger strike was not to raise students’ issues, but to disrupt the streets to Parliament during the Monsoon Session, said Malhotra.
