75 Years of Raj Assembly: Veteran MLAs to be honoured today at day-long Amrit Mahotsav

Jaipur, July 15 (IANS) The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a grand Amrit Mahotsav on Wednesday, bringing together constitutional dignitaries, current and former legislators, and parliamentarians in what is being described as a first-of-its-kind event in the country.

The Assembly will honour 26 legislators who have been elected six or more times, recognising their long-standing contribution to parliamentary democracy.

Most of the honourees are over the age of 70. The event is expected to create several milestones, with dignitaries including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, and two former Chief Ministers, including Ashok Gehlot and Vasundhara Raje, sharing the stage.

It will also witness the participation of 35 Members of Parliament, 25 from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha — along with nearly 695 current and former MLAs.

The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has become the first state legislature in the country to celebrate its 75-year journey with an Amrit Mahotsav. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the celebrations at 10 a.m. after arriving in Jaipur on Wednesday morning.

The concluding session, scheduled for 4 p.m., will be attended by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan as the chief guest, with Governor Haribhau Bagde and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma as distinguished guests.

As part of the celebrations, 26 MLAs who have served six or more terms will be felicitated for their contribution to public life.

Special accommodation arrangements have been made for current and former legislators at the Circuit House, Dak Bungalow, MLA Guest House and the Panchayati Raj Institute.

The Amrit Mahotsav will also feature discussions on 24 landmark legislations that have shaped Rajasthan’s governance and development over the past seven and a half decades.

Sixteen current and former legislators will participate in deliberations on the significance and impact of these historic laws.

The celebrations are expected to highlight the Assembly’s democratic legacy while bringing together generations of lawmakers on a common platform for the first time.
