Srinagar, Sep 5 (IANS) Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday arrested seven persons in a suspicious ‘Trath Gola’ (rare meteorite stone) transaction and recovered Rs 7 lakh from them.
A police statement said that in a significant action, Shopian Police have apprehended seven persons in connection with a suspicious transaction involving a so-called “Trath Gola”, which was allegedly being projected as a rare and valuable meteorite stone.
The apprehended individuals were brought to Heerpora Police Station for questioning and further legal proceedings.
They have been identified as: Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Habibullah Bhat and resident of Bagi Islam in Baramulla; Safeeruddin Mir, son of Haneef Mir and resident of Rajghat in Baramulla; Abdul Rashid Kirmani, son of Ghulam Nabi Kirmani and resident of Rawalpora in Srinagar; Mohammad Shafi Mir, son of Abdul Ahad Mir and resident of Zaloora in Sopore; Imtiyaz Ahmad Bakloo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bakloo and resident of Pushroo Shangus in Anantnag, Arshid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohammad Subhan Wani and resident of Khurri Batpora in Kulgam; and Syed Gulzar Ahmad, son of Syed Qamar Din and resident of Lakdipora Nihama in Kulgam.
During the preliminary enquiry, Police recovered Rs 5,00,000 in cash from the spot along with a box containing a stone, which was allegedly being represented as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola”/meteorite.
Moreover, two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-1311 (Alto) and JK03B-5955 (Alto) were also brought to Heerpora Police Station for further examination.
In connection with the incident, an FIR under relevant provisions of law has been registered in Heerpora Police Station and further investigation is underway to establish the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction.
The Shopian Police have cautioned the general public against falling prey to fraudulent claims involving so-called rare, precious or meteorite stones.
Citizens are advised to verify the authenticity and value of such objects through competent authorities before entering into any financial transaction.
Shopian Police reiterates its commitment to protecting the public from fraudulent activities and ensuring that strict lawful action is taken against persons found involved in such deceptive practices.
