
Hapur/Firozabad, Aug 22 (IANS) Police in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday have arrested a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 in connection with the murder of a man, following an encounter. Weapons, ammunition and a car used in the crime were recovered from the accused.
Officials said that during a checking operation by the Hapur Dehat police, the main accused in the Gaurav Tyagi murder case was injured in retaliatory police firing. The accused, identified as Pradeep, son of Rajbir, who was carrying a bounty of Rs 25,000, was arrested and admitted to a hospital for treatment.
According to the police, Pradeep, a resident of Mohammadpur Azampur village under the Babugarh police station area, was wanted in connection with the murder of Gaurav Tyagi on August 18 over an old land dispute. Police alleged that Pradeep, along with his brothers and other associates, brutally murdered Gaurav Tyagi, a resident of the same village, by attacking him with hammers and iron rods.
A case was registered at the Hapur Dehat police station under several relevant Sections of the IPC. Pradeep was wanted in the case, and Hapur Superintendent of Police Kunwar Gyanendra Singh had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to his arrest.
During the operation, police recovered illegal weapons, ammunition and the car allegedly used in the incident from the accused.
Hapur DSP Anita Chauhan said that during the checking operation, the police team signalled a white car to stop. However, instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and attempted to flee before crashing the vehicle into a tree.
Following the collision, the accused attempted to escape and opened fire at the police team. The police retaliated, during which Pradeep sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, in another incident in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested three notorious thieves following a shootout.
Tundla Circle Officer Arun Kumar Chaurasia said that a joint operation by teams from the Makhanpur and Narkhi police stations led to the arrest of the three accused. During the exchange of fire, two of the accused, identified as Anuj and Mithun, sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Police recovered a pistol, a motorcycle and more than Rs 10,000 in cash from the three accused. Further investigation into both cases is underway.
