Agartala, May 8 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and several senior leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party will attend the swearing-in ceremonies of the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party-led governments in West Bengal and Assam on May 10 and May 12, respectively.

In the recently concluded Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party scripted history in West Bengal by coming to power for the first time, securing a massive 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly and decisively defeating the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee.

The Trinamool Congress managed to win only 80 seats.

In Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance further strengthened its position.

The Bharatiya Janata Party alone won 82 seats in the 126-member Assembly, enabling the party to retain power for a third consecutive term.

Its alliance partners — the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland Peoples Front — secured 10 seats each.

The Congress won 19 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front and Raijor Dal secured two seats each.

The Trinamool Congress won one seat.

Saha and other Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from Tripura have already reached Kolkata to attend Saturday’s swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to be held at the Brigade Parade Ground at 10 a.m.

The event coincides with the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore as per the Bengali calendar.

The oath of office will be administered by Governor R.N. Ravi in the presence of PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of other Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states, several Union ministers and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from across the country.

Before leaving for Kolkata, the Chief Minister told media persons in Agartala: “I am going to Kolkata to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the first Bharatiya Janata Party government on Saturday.”

“I will also join the oath-taking ceremony of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government in Assam on May 12,” Saha added.

Bharatiya Janata Party sources said several other party leaders from Tripura will attend the May 12 swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati.

The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of PM Modi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been winning state after state across the country.

He described PM Modi as a leader with a unique and influential personality in India’s political landscape.

“During the pre-poll campaign, I visited several places in West Bengal and witnessed a strong wind of change. Ultimately, it resulted in a landslide victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party, which was beyond expectations,” Saha said.

He also criticised Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee for not resigning from the Chief Minister’s post following what he termed a devastating electoral defeat.

Earlier, the Tripura Chief Minister congratulated Suvendu Adhikari on being elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislative Party in the West Bengal Assembly.

In a post on his X handle, Saha wrote: “Heartiest congratulations to Shri Suvendu Adhikari Ji on being elected Leader of the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party Legislative Party.”

“Your unwavering dedication and strong leadership will inspire the party in West Bengal. Together, under the visionary guidance of Hon’ble PM Modi, we will continue working towards a Viksit Bharat.”

“Maa Tripura Sundari bless you with the strength to work relentlessly for the development and progress of West Bengal,” Saha added.
