Hyderabad, July 20 (IANS) The government of Telangana on Monday launched the Indiramma Indlu scheme under which houses will be constructed for the poor in the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) region.
Low-income group housing towers will be constructed within the limits of Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, D. Sridhar Babu and Mohammed Azharuddin launched the scheme at a programme held at the State Secretariat.
The ministers unveiled the brochure, the modalities of the scheme, the eligibility and the process for application.
Telangana Housing Board will construct the towers for the homeless poor belonging to weaker sections of society on the government lands. Under the first phase, the government will construct 500 houses in each of 26 Assembly constituencies in the CURE region.
In the pilot phase, 7,680 flats will be built. It will be later scaled to a full programme of one lakh houses.
The government will provide land for the housing towers and extend Rs 5 lakh subsidy for each housing unit. The Housing Board fixed the beneficiary’s contribution at Rs 6 lakh.
It has also fixed Rs 100 as the application fee for LIG flats and Rs 10,000 as EMD. If the applicants are not sanctioned the houses, the Housing Board will return the EMD.
Families who have been residents of Hyderabad for the last 10 years and have an annual income of up to Rs 6 lakh are eligible to apply. Applications will be received from July 21 till August 10.
The Housing Board has tentatively identified 17 locations for building housing towers. Each flat will have a carpet area of 400 square feet and built-up area of 528 square feet.
Minister for Transport and Backward Classes Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, said houses will be built even in those areas where the land price is Rs 2 to Rs 3 lakh per square yard.
Minister for Industry and Information Technology, D. Sridhar Babu, said that the government’s commitment is to make Telangana a state free of huts.
“During the previous Congress government, we constructed LIG Housing Towers in several parts of the city to provide affordable housing for the poor and middle-class families. With the same spirit, we are now launching the Indiramma Housing (LIG Housing Towers) project in the CURE region,” he said.
The minister mentioned that as part of the Telangana Rising – 2047 Vision, the government has set a target of expanding the state’s economy to USD1 trillion by 2034 and USD3 trillion by 2047. To achieve this vision and ensure balanced, inclusive development, the state has been divided into CURE, PURE, and RARE development regions.
“Hyderabad is the focal point of the CURE vision. Our objective is not only to develop Hyderabad into a global city but also to ensure that the benefits of this growth reach the poor and the middle class living in the city. That is the core idea behind the CURE Vision. These LIG Housing Towers, being launched under the CURE region, are a reflection of that vision. They mark another historic milestone in Hyderabad’s urban development,” he said.
The minister hoped that in the coming years, this project would set a new benchmark for the urban housing sector in the country and serve as a model for similar initiatives.
“Unlike rural areas, urban regions face severe land constraints for housing development. To overcome this challenge and fulfil the dream of home ownership for poor and middle-class families, we will construct LIG Housing Towers on land worth hundreds of crores of rupees,” he said.
He gave the assurance that the government will ensure complete transparency in the selection of beneficiaries and allocation of houses so that only eligible families receive Indiramma houses.
In accordance with the prescribed guidelines, 10 per cent of the houses will be allotted to eligible outsourcing employees, contract workers, and sanitation workers.
