Lucknow, Aug 15 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, on Saturday hoisted the National Flag at his official residence on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day and said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, government policies are being formulated keeping in mind four key sections of society — the poor, youth, women and farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “On the occasion of Independence Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of the entire state. We all know that on this day in 1947, our country, India, attained independence as a result of a long struggle, sacrifice and martyrdom. The sense of freedom that every Indian experiences today in an atmosphere of liberty is the result of the sacrifices, penance and dedication of the great sons and martyrs of Mother India.”
He further said, “Everyone had only one belief and one sentiment in their hearts: That we had to free our country from foreign rule. Freedom does not mean merely political independence. It also means complete freedom from anarchy, backwardness, poverty, illiteracy and inequality that continually weakened the country.”
Highlighting the collective responsibility of citizens in preserving the country’s freedom, CM Yogi said, “It provides renewed inspiration to every citizen to understand that if we want to preserve this freedom for a long time, it is not the responsibility of any one person, community or caste. Rather, all 140 crore Indians must collectively contribute to this effort in their respective fields.
“The disorder, poverty, backwardness, inequality and lack of education that the country faced in 1947, many of these problems have been resolved over the past eight decades, while pathways to resolving many others have been created. The results of these efforts are visible today. Across the country, 25 crore people have been lifted out of multidimensional poverty, the scope of education has expanded, and the benefits of government schemes without discrimination have begun reaching every section of society.”
Talking about the freedom struggle, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said, “In different parts of the country, struggles and movements against this slavery took place at different times. The First War of Independence in 1857 was an important milestone in the efforts made for the country’s freedom…Freedom does not mean merely political independence. It also means complete freedom from anarchy, backwardness, poverty, illiteracy and inequality, which had continuously weakened the country.
“Every citizen must be called upon to understand that if we want to preserve the country’s freedom for a long time, it cannot be the responsibility of any one individual, community or caste. Rather, all 1.4 billion Indians must collectively take forward this effort and contribute equally in their respective fields.”
Elaborating on the government’s approach, Yogi Adityanath said, “Under PM Modi’s leadership, policies are made keeping in mind four castes–poor, youth, women and farmers. In last 12 years, these four things were kept in mind and then policies were formed. So, for all the results, 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty.”
