PM-YASASVI scholarship helps rural Jharkhand student realise IIM Raipur MBA dream

New Delhi: Financial assistance under the PM-YASASVI Scholarship Scheme has helped Bishwajit Mondal, a 28-year-old student from a rural, tribal-dominated region of Jharkhand, pursue his MBA dream at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur.

Belonging to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, Mondal faced financial constraints while pursuing higher education. Despite limited access to quality education and professional opportunities in his region, he secured admission to IIM Raipur’s 2024–26 Post Graduate Programme (PGP).

The government said he became the first person from his community to achieve the milestone of pursuing management education at the premier institution.

₹18 lakh tuition fee covered

The cost of the MBA programme posed a significant financial challenge for Mondal and his family. Under the PM-YASASVI Scholarship, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment provided financial assistance covering his entire tuition fee of approximately ₹18 lakh.

The support enabled him to continue his studies without the burden of arranging tuition fees and focus on academics, leadership activities and skill development.

During his time at IIM Raipur, Mondal participated in academic projects, leadership initiatives, professional networking and various skill development programmes, which helped strengthen his managerial capabilities and career prospects.

The government said Mondal’s journey demonstrates how financial assistance can help talented students from disadvantaged communities access quality higher education.

Mondal said the scholarship removed the financial burden associated with his MBA and enabled him to concentrate on learning, leadership and professional development. He expressed hope that his experience would encourage more students from rural and marginalised communities to pursue higher education and aim for ambitious careers.

The Ministry said the PM-YASASVI scholarship is helping expand access to higher education among OBC students by addressing financial barriers and supporting inclusive educational opportunities.
